Am I covered if I buy a policy and then develop a medical condition and the doctor says I'm ok to travel?

If your medical condition is listed on our list of "Automatically covered pre-existing medical conditions" AND satisfies the conditions specified on the list for that medical condition:

  • Your doctor advises that you are fine to travel; and
  • You do not require medication
There would be provision to claim for unexpected illness caused by that condition during your trip.

If your medical condition is listed on our list of "Automatically covered pre-existing medical conditions" AND satisfies the conditions specified on the list for that medical condition:

  • Your doctor advises that you are fine to travel; and
  • You require medication for that condition
There would be provision to claim for unexpected illness caused by that condition if your medication remains unchanged for 6 months prior to your departure for your trip. However, you need to ensure that you bring enough medication for your trip, as there is no cover for the cost of purchasing your medication whether in Australia or overseas.
You may be able to claim for Trip Cancellation Expenses if you have a medical reason for choosing not to travel, even if your doctor has said that it is ok for you to travel.

If your medical condition is listed on our list of "Automatically covered pre-existing medical conditions" and does NOT satisfy the conditions specified on the list for that medical condition:

You would NOT have cover if your medical condition worsens while on your trip.

If your condition is NOT listed on our list of "Automatically Covered existing medical conditions":

You would NOT have cover if your medical condition worsens while on your trip.
