If I am on warfarin and change my medication, can I get medical cover?

1) If you change your medication from warfarin to another type of blood thinner, including aspirin:

  • Due to the potential side-effects of taking warfarin or any type of blood thinners (including aspirin), there is no cover for any complications that may occur due to the taking of the blood thinners (including aspirin).
  • You are also NOT covered for the pre-existing medical condition that you are taking the warfarin for, if it is not on our set list of covered 43 Pre-Existing Medical Conditions.
  • We can still issue a policy, but any claim arising from, or related to the taking of the warfarin or the pre-existing medical condition would not be covered.

2) If your doctor has given their ok for you to stop taking warfarin or any other type of blood thinner, including aspirin:

  • If this happened more than 6 months prior to you taking out your policy:
    • You are still NOT covered for the pre-existing medical condition that you were taking the warfarin for, if it is not on our set list of covered 43 Pre-Existing Medical Conditions.
    • We can still issue a policy, but any claim arising from, or related to the pre-existing medical condition would not be covered.
  • If this happened less than 6 months prior to you taking out your policy:
    • You are still NOT covered for the pre-existing medical condition that you were taking the warfarin for;
    • We can still issue a policy, but any claim arising from, or related to the taking of the warfarin or the pre-existing medical condition would not be covered.
