Am I covered if my mum, who has insurance with another company, becomes sick while we are travelling together?
If your mum is considered a travelling companion on your policy and you are together for at least 75% of your trip itinerary, you may be able to claim for only your (not your mother’s) certain costs if she unexpectedly falls sick. This can include:
- Trip cancellation expenses if you are unable to start your trip because of her sickness
- Trip disruption expenses if your journey is interrupted due to her sickness
A few important conditions apply:
- Your mum must be 84 years of age or younger
- At the time you purchased your policy, you must not have been aware of the likelihood of her sickness, injury, or death
All claims are assessed according to the limits, conditions, and exclusions set out in the Product Disclosure Statement (PDS).
Every claim is reviewed individually on a case-by-case basis and will only be paid if it meets the terms, conditions, limits, and exclusions in your policy. Always check the PDS carefully so you know exactly what’s included before you travel.
