Am I covered if there's a natural disaster, like a hurricane or volcanic eruption?

Yes, cover is provided for a natural disaster. The level of cover for natural disasters depends on the type of policy you have chosen for your holiday and  the event must have begun after you purchased the policy.

The Comprehensive, Snow Sports Plus, Standard Saver, Frequent Traveller Saver and Basics policy may provide medical cover should you become injured due to the natural disaster.

The Comprehensive, Snow Sports Plus, Standard Saver and Frequent Traveller Saver policy may provide cover towards the cost of travel and accommodation arrangements if your scheduled or connecting transport is cancelled, delayed, rescheduled or diverted because of a natural disaster.

The Comprehensive, Snow Sports Plus, Frequent Traveller Saver and Domestic Plus policy may provide cover towards the cost of travel delays and special event transport arrangements if your scheduled or connecting transport is cancelled, delayed, rescheduled or diverted because of a natural disaster.

Cover may depend on:

  • Whether the natural disaster was unforeseen when you booked the travel; and
  • When you purchased the insurance; and
  • Whether your travel was undertaken against the advice or warning by any government or official body, or where the mass media had indicated the existence or potential existence of circumstances that may affect the travel.

Note:

  • The Basics policy does not provide this cover.
