What happens if I need to return home early because of a family emergency or death?

If you have to cut your trip short due to a family emergency or the death of a close relative (this is defined in the PDS), this may fall under the cancellation or trip disruption benefits of your policy.

Wherever claims are made by you under this provision and Trip Cancellation Expenses for the same or similar expense, we will pay for the greater of the two amounts, but not both. Cancellation due to a relative’s unexpected sickness, injury or death that does not meet the close relative definition, the most we will pay is 25% of your non-refundable claim expenses or up to a maximum of $2,000, whichever is the lesser.

The level of cover available depends on the type of policy you have, the benefit limits, and whether the situation meets the conditions set out in the Product Disclosure Statement (PDS).

It is important to keep all supporting documents such as medical certificates, death certificates, and any receipts for additional travel or accommodation costs. These documents will be required when you submit a claim.

If something happens while you are travelling, you should also contact Fast Cover as soon as possible so you can be guided through the process. You can contact us on 1300 409 322 or send us an email to info@fastcover.com.au

Every claim is reviewed individually on a case-by-case basis and will only be paid if it meets the terms, conditions, limits, and exclusions in your policy. Always check the PDS carefully so you know exactly what’s included before you travel.
