What should I do if the COVID-19 situation changes in the country I am in?
If the COVID-19 situation changes while you are overseas, for example, new restrictions are introduced, cases rise sharply, or local rules around travel, quarantine, or movement change, your first step should be to stay informed. You can do this by checking official updates from Smartraveller, your local government health authority, and your transport or accommodation providers.
Depending on the policy chosen, if your trip is directly disrupted because you or someone named on your Certificate of Insurance tests positive for COVID-19 and are required to isolate or quarantine, you may be able to claim under the COVID-19 Trip Cancellation and Disruption benefit for reasonable additional accommodation and travel expenses, up to the limits in your policy.
There is no cover if your plans are disrupted only because of government restrictions, border closures, or general changes to COVID-19 rules that are not linked to a covered diagnosis.
Every claim is reviewed individually on a case-by-case basis and will only be paid if it meets the terms, conditions, limits, and exclusions in your policy. Always check the PDS carefully so you know exactly what’s included before you travel.
