Is there cover if I’m diagnosed with COVID-19 the day after I buy travel insurance?

No, if you are diagnosed with COVID-19 or begin to develop symptoms within the first 72 hours of purchasing your policy, there is no cover for any COVID-19 related claims. This 72-hour period acts like a waiting period to prevent claims for illnesses that have already started or are likely to occur immediately after purchase.

If your COVID-19 diagnosis happens after this 72-hour window, and it meets the terms of your policy, cover may be available for benefits such as COVID-19 Overseas Emergency Medical, Hospital and Medical Evacuation Expenses or COVID-19 Trip Cancellation and Disruption.

Every claim is reviewed individually on a case-by-case basis and will only be paid if it meets the terms, conditions, limits, and exclusions in your policy. Always check the PDS carefully so you know exactly what’s included before you travel.
