I bought train tickets for my trip, but now there will be a train strike. Can I claim for the cost of hiring a car to travel instead?
If you were not aware of the possibility of a train strike at the time that you booked your train tickets, and the cost of the train tickets were not refunded in full, or only partially refunded back to you, you can submit a claim for the amount that you are out-of-pocket.
The cancellation benefit only covers you for what you had originally paid for (in this case, the train tickets). There is no cover for the additional cost of any alternative form of transport that you book, in replacement of your original booking.
Cover is subject to the policy terms, conditions, limits and exclusions in the Product Disclosure Statement (PDS).
