Are airline operational issues (not enough staff, technical or mechanical) covered?
Cover is provided in certain circumstances under the following Benefits :
1) Travel Delay Expenses benefit: reimburses up to $200 per adult listed on the Certificate of Insurance, per day, up to a maximum of 10 days, for reasonable accommodation and meal expenses that you incur as a result of the flight delay, but the delay must be for more than 6 hours from your scheduled departure time.
2) Special Event Transport Expenses benefit: if you have a Special Event to get to, this benefit provides cover up to $5000 for your reasonable additional travel expenses to get to your special event on time.
Note:
- There is no cover for any cancelled accommodation, tour or cruise expenses that you incur as a result of the airline's operational issues.
- The Travel Delay and Special Event Transport Expense benefits are only available on select policies.
- There is no cover for trip cancellation or trip disruption expenses as a result of a delay or rescheduling by an airline unless it is due to a strike, riot, hijack, civil protest, severe weather or natural disaster.
You are free to make a claim, and the Claims team will assess your claim and make a decision based on your particular circumstances.
