Do I Need a Visa for New Zealand from Australia?

Australian citizens travelling on an Australian passport, and Australian permanent residents travelling with a valid and per-approved New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority do not need to apply for a visa to enter New Zealand as they will be granted an Australian Resident Visa upon arrival, allowing you to visit, work, study, and live in New Zealand indefinitely, provided they meet all the entry requirements.

However, Australian temporary residents may need a visa for New Zealand, depending on their passport nationality, purpose and duration of their trip. Australian temporary residents should use New Zealand Immigration’s online tool to check if they need a visa or an NZeTA to travel to New Zealand based on their specific circumstances.

Any advice is general advice only and does not take into account your individual objectives, financial situation, or needs. As entry requirements for New Zealand may change over time, it is your responsibility to verify entry and visa requirements with the official government authorities including Immigration New Zealand, New Zealand Customs Service, the New Zealand High Commission, the New Zealand Consulate General, and the Australian Department of Home Affairs
