Can Australians go to New Zealand without a visa?

Under the Trans-Tasman Travel Arrangement, Australian citizens travelling on an Australian passport, and Australian permanent residents travelling with a valid and per-approved New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority can travel to New Zealand visa-free, that is, without obtaining a visa in advance. Provided they meet all the entry requirements, they will be issued with an Australian Resident Visa that allows an indefinite stay in New Zealand. Australian temporary residents are not eligible for this visa-free travel exemption. Temporary residents should check if they need a visa or an NZeTA to travel to New Zealand based on their specific circumstances.

Any advice is general advice only and does not take into account your individual objectives, financial situation, or needs. As entry requirements for New Zealand may change over time, it is your responsibility to verify entry and visa requirements with the official government authorities including Immigration New Zealand, New Zealand Customs Service, the New Zealand High Commission, the New Zealand Consulate General, and the Australian Department of Home Affairs
