Is medical only travel insurance enough for international trips?
Medical-only travel insurance is designed to cover overseas emergency medical and hospital expenses, which can be very costly without insurance. This type of policy provides essential medical protection but does not usually include other benefits such as cancellation cover, travel delay, luggage protection, or additional options like rental vehicle excess.
Whether medical-only cover is enough depends on what level of cover you want for your trip. Some travellers choose it when their main concern is overseas medical care, while others prefer policies which provide more coverage, such as Standard Saver or Comprehensive that also include non-medical benefits.
Ultimately it is your own personal decision and responsibility to decide which travel insurance policy to buy.
Every claim is reviewed individually on a case-by-case basis and will only be paid if it meets the terms, conditions, limits, and exclusions in your policy. Always check the PDS carefully so you know exactly what’s included before you travel.
