Can travel insurance cover me if I fall victim to a scam?
Travel insurance may help in some situations involving scams, depending on your policy and the circumstances. Under the Fast Cover Travel Insurance PDS, certain losses such as theft may be considered if they meet the policy definitions and conditions.
However, not all scam related losses are covered. Scam related losses not covered can include situations like being overcharged by a taxi driver, receiving traffic fines while using a rental vehicle, or damage to items such as motorcycles. Losses where money is voluntarily handed over or where there is no insurable event, like theft that meets the policy definition, are also generally not covered.
Every claim is reviewed individually on a case-by-case basis and will only be paid if it meets the terms, conditions, limits, and exclusions in your policy. Always check the PDS carefully so you know exactly what’s included before you travel.
