What does ‘Resident of Australia’ mean in travel insurance?

A “Resident of Australia” is someone who meets specific eligibility criteria set out in the PDS. This includes but not limited to:

Australian citizen and permanent residents who:

  • Currently live in Australia
  • Hold an Australian Medicare card that will be valid beyond the period of insurance

Temporary residents who:

  • Hold a valid visa that remains valid beyond their return
  • Have a Medicare card or compliant private health insurance for their visa
  • Have a home in Australia and intend to return to it
