What am I covered for in the case of a terrorist attack?

The cover that you have depends on the date and time that you purchased your policy:
  1. If you are travelling and you are injured or killed in an overseas terrorist attack, you still have Medical cover, provided you are not in a country or region that has a 'Do not travel' rating issued by the Australian government, prior to your arrival in that country or region.
  2. If a terrorist attack occurs or there is a threat of a terrorist attack AFTER you buy your policy AND a 'Do not travel' warning is issued by smartraveller for the destinations you are planning on travelling to, you would NOT be able to claim for the cancellation costs.
  3. If a terrorist attack occurs or there is a threat of a terrorist attack BEFORE you buy your policy AND a 'Do not travel' warning has been issued by smartraveller for the destinations you are planning on travelling to, there is NO cover for any claims related to the terrorist event.

Note:

  • If a 'Do not travel' warning has been issued by smartraveller for the destinations you are planning on travelling to, there is NO cover for any claims if you still choose to travel to that destination.
  • Before travelling to any destination, please make sure that you check the smartraveller travel alerts for the areas within the country that you plan to visit. While a country may have an overall travel warning of 'Exercise normal safety precautions', 'High degree of caution' or 'Reconsider your need to travel', there may be areas within that country that have a 'Do not travel' alert. If you travel to an area which has a 'Do not travel' alert, there is NO cover for any claims.
