Is hiking, trekking or tramping covered under my travel insurance policy?

Hiking, trekking or tramping is included under Fast Cover travel insurance policies under specific conditions:

  • These activities are automatically included within Covered Sports and Leisure Activities, peaking at altitudes below 3,000 metres, where specialist climbing equipment is not required. (Expeditions to or on the Kokoda Track/Trail are not automatically covered)
  • If the activity is peaking at altitudes between 3,000 and 6,000 metres (not higher), you must purchase the Adventure Pack add-on. Even with the Adventure Pack, cover is only available if specialist climbing equipment is not required.
  • There is no cover for hiking, trekking or tramping above 6,000 metres, or for any activity that involves the use of specialist climbing equipment.

Whether a claim relating to this activity is payable will depend on your policy type, the specific circumstances, the type of expenses you are seeking, and the policy terms, conditions, exclusions, limits and sub-limits.

Eligibility criteria, policy terms, conditions, exclusions, limits and sub-limits apply. Consider the PDS prior to deciding on which policy is right for you and your needs.

Any advice is general advice only and does not take into account your individual objectives, financial situation, or needs. Please consider the PDS before making any decisions regarding the purchase of travel insurance.

As each individual’s circumstances are different, we will assess each claim on a case-by-case basis in accordance with your specific circumstances, policy terms, conditions, exclusions and Certificate of Insurance.
