What is 'Trip Cancellation Expenses' cover?
The Trip Cancellation Expenses benefit can reimburse you for cancellation fees, rescheduling costs, and lost deposits for pre-paid travel and accommodation that you can’t recover elsewhere, if you need to unexpectedly:
- Cancel or reschedule your trip before departure, or
- Shorten your trip (to return home to Australia) after it has started,
due to unexpected events outside of your control that occur after your Certificate of Insurance is issued.
Important to know:
- This benefit is included in Comprehensive, Standard Saver, Snow Sports Plus, and Domestic Plus policies (from the date the policy is issued).
- It applies to the Frequent Traveller Saver policy from the travel start date you select.
- It applies to the Already Overseas policy after the 48-hour “no cover” period.
- It is not included in the Basics policy.
- Wherever claims are made by you under this benefit and Benefit 6: Trip Disruption Expenses for cancelled or alternative travel arrangements for the same or similar expense, we will pay for the greater of the two amounts, but not both.
- Refunds or credits you receive will be deducted from the amount payable on your claim.
- This benefit does not provide cover for claims that arise from COVID-19. The cover We provide specific to COVID-19 is found under different benefits as per our PDS.
Every claim is reviewed individually on a case-by-case basis and will only be paid if it meets the terms, conditions, limits, and exclusions in your policy. Always check the PDS carefully so you know exactly what’s included before you travel.
