Am I covered if I have a general doctor or dental check up while I'm overseas?

The following advice is general advice only and has not taken into account your individual objectives, financial situation or needs. Consider the PDS prior to deciding whether this policy is right for you.

Travel insurance only provides cover for unexpected and unforeseen events.

Cover is excluded under the policy for any routine medical or dental checkups, even if your medical condition is approved for cover by us following a medical screening, as they are not considered an unexpected event. See the General Exclusions under the policy.

For example: The cost to have a pap smear done overseas is not covered unless the pap smear is carried out in the course of an emergency medical treatment.

If you are unsure of your health, you should consider having a medical and/or dental checkup before you leave for your trip.

Check out our Medical Conditions page for more information about:

  • What we consider to be an existing medical condition,
  • Medical screening for your existing medical and pregnancy conditions, and
  • Information about the General Exclusions that may apply.

As each individual’s circumstances are different, in the event of a claim, our claims team will assess each claim on a case by case basis.

Cover is subject to the policy terms, conditions, limits and exclusions in the Product Disclosure Statement (PDS).
