No, you don't need a return ticket, however you must intend to return to Australia for your policy to be valid.

If you do not yet have a return ticket, for your 'Return Date', select the date that you plan to arrive back home. You can extend the return date online when you are overseas by going to our website and logging into your policy..

However, you CANNOT shorten the duration of your policy. If you have to shorten your trip and return home on medical advice and do not already have a return ticket, the amount of the claim will be reduced by the price of the fare to Australia from the place you planned to return to Australia from.
