Is travel insurance compulsory?

Travel insurance is not compulsory, however, medical expenses in some countries can be very expensive. If you don't have travel insurance that covers you for those expenses, you will have to pay for the costs yourself.

The Australian government is not obliged to provide you with financial assistance if you are injured and hospitalised while overseas.
