What is covered under the 'Luggage and Personal Effects' benefit?

This benefit provides cover for damage, loss or theft of your own personal items which you take with you on your trip.

The luggage and personal effects that you take with you on your trip are covered as per the following maximum limits under Benefit 14: Luggage and Personal Effects:

  • $3,000 for personal computers, video recorders or cameras
  • $1,500 for mobile phones, satellite phones, and other portable communication equipment
  • $1,000 for small mobile hand-held computers including tablet devices like iPads;
  • $750 for any other Unspecified items or set (including but not limited to hearing aids, sleep apnoea machines, wheel chairs, musical instruments, sunglasses and bags).

Items or sets which are covered as per the above limits are referred to as ‘unspecified items’.

Depending on your situation, up to the limits for this benefit, we will determine whether we pay your (whichever is lesser):

  • the cost to repair the item
  • the cost to replace the item, or
  • the purchase price of the item less any depreciation that applies.

Note:

  • This benefit is automatically included with select policies, while other policies require you to pay an additional premium to include cover for your luggage and personal effects.
  • Depreciation will be applied to items that you bring with you on your trip, unless you have purchased Specified High Value item cover.
  • No depreciation will be applied to luggage and personal effects purchased duty free prior to your departure, luggage and personal effects purchased during your trip, or Specified High Value Items listed on your Certificate of Insurance.
  • The most we will pay if your luggage and personal effects are stolen from your unattended motor vehicle during daylight hours, provided you have complied with the conditions of cover, is $200 for each item, and $2,000 in total for all stolen items, even if you have purchased Specified high value item cover.
