What is 'Travel delay expenses' cover?

This benefit reimburses you up to $200 for each traveller (excluding dependants travelling with their parents or grandparents on Single or Family policies) listed on the Certificate of insurance for your reasonable additional meals and accommodation expenses if your pre-booked carrier has been cancelled and rescheduled, or delayed and the rescheduled departure time or delay is for at least 6 hours from the time your carrier was scheduled to depart, due to circumstances outside of your control.

You will be reimbursed up to $200 for each traveller (excluding dependants travelling with their parents or grandparents on Single or Family policies) listed on the Certificate of insurance, for each subsequent full 24-hour period beyond the initial 6-hour delay from the time your carrier was scheduled to depart, until your rescheduled departure time.

Note:

  • This benefit is only available with select policies.
  • You can claim up to $200 per day up to a maximum of $2,000, after the intial 6 hour delay.
  • There is no cover under this benefit for you to book an alternative carrier or mode of transport to get you to your destination or return you home, although there may be cover under the Special Event Transport Expenses benefit.
  • You must first seek compensation from your carrier for the delay.
  • You must provide supporting documentation from the carrier stating the reason for the delay.

Cover is subject to the policy terms, conditions, limits and exclusions in the Product Disclosure Statement (PDS).
