Do you cover for overseas medical evacuation?
If you are seriously injured or sick while overseas, the Overseas emergency medical evacuation and repatriation benefit provides for:
- your reasonable additional accommodation (room only) and travel expenses if you can’t return to Australia on the return date as specified on your certificate of insurance due to the medical advice of your overseas Medical practitioner.
- your overseas medical transfer, evacuation (medivac) or repatriation if you must be transported to the nearest hospital for emergency medical treatment or be brought back to Australia with appropriate medical supervision, if you’re seriously injured or sick while on your overseas trip. The medical transfer, evacuation or repatriation must first be approved by us.
- the reimbursement of reasonable accommodation (room only) and travel expenses of your close relative, travelling companion or any other nominated person to travel to you, stay near you or escort you if you can’t travel because of an injury or sickness which occurred or became apparent while on your trip, resulting in a life-threatening or other serious condition. They must travel, stay with you or escort you for 100% of your repatriation to Australia. This must be confirmed in writing by your overseas medical practitioner to be medically required, and must first be approved by us.
As each individual’s circumstances are different, in the event of a claim, our claims team will assess each claim on a case by case basis.
