Do I need to declare my Pre-Existing Medical Conditions?

The following is general advice only and does not take into account your individual needs, objectives or financial situation. Consider the PDS prior to deciding whether this policy is appropriate for you and your trip.

If you wish to add cover for your existing medical condition, you must declare it to us and complete a medical screening so that we can assess your medical situation.

You can complete a medical screening for:

  1. Your existing medical conditions that you have or have had, for the 3 years prior to your policy purchase date,
  2. Any changes to your existing medical conditions which we have agreed to cover, after you buy your policy and before you leave for your trip,
  3. New medical conditions you develop after you buy your policy and before you leave for your trip.

If we agree to provide you with cover for your medical conditions following your medical screening, you will need to pay an additional premium.

Some medical conditions may be interconnected, so to enable us to accurately determine whether or not we can provide you with cover for your medical or pregnancy conditions, you must declare all the medical or pregnancy conditions that you have, or changes to your health, even if you:

  • Don’t want cover for them, or
  • Consider them treated, dormant or under control, or
  • Don’t consider them important or related to any of your other conditions.

If you only declare some, and not all of your Medical conditions or Pregnancy conditions, you may not have cover for your Medical conditions or Pregnancy conditions that are listed as covered on your Certificate of insurance.

Unless the medical condition is ongoing, that is, meets any of the criteria for a medical condition, such as it continues to require ongoing prescription medication, checkups etc, you do not need to complete a medical screening for the condition that you had more than 3 years prior to policy purchase.

IMPORTANT:

If you have:

  • had a medical or pregnancy condition within the 3 years prior to your policy purchase date,or
  • not notified us of a change in health or new medical condition as mentioned above, and
  • they are not listed as a covered condition on your certificate of insurance,

there is no cover for any claims under the policy arising from any of those medical or pregnancy conditions.

You can complete a medical screening online on fastcover.com.au during the application process for each traveller (including dependants who are travelling with you). Alternatively, please call our Australian based call centre on 1300 409 322 and we'll be happy to help you with your medical screening over the phone.
