Does travel insurance cover natural disasters?
Fast Cover travel insurance may provide cover if your trip is disrupted or you are injured as a result of a natural disaster, such as a flood, cyclone, bushfire, earthquake, volcanic eruption, or ash cloud. The type of cover available depends on the policy you have chosen.
Some policies may include:
- Medical cover if you are injured due to a natural disaster.
- Cancellation or disruption cover if your prepaid travel or accommodation arrangements are affected.
- Travel delay or special event transport cover if your scheduled or connecting transport is cancelled, delayed, rescheduled, or diverted.
Whether cover applies will also depend on when you purchased your policy, whether the event was unforeseen at the time of purchase, and whether you travelled against government or official warnings.
Every claim is reviewed individually on a case-by-case basis and will only be paid if it meets the terms, conditions, limits, and exclusions in your policy. Always check the PDS carefully so you know exactly what’s included before you travel.
