Does travel insurance cover working or studying overseas?

Travel insurance policies may provide cover if you are working or studying overseas, but the cover applies only to the benefits listed in your policy such as overseas medical emergencies, trip cancellation, and luggage.

The policy might not cover every aspect of working or studying abroad. For example, there might be no cover for loss of income if your job ends early, no cover for liability arising from your work, and no cover for tuition fees if your studies are interrupted.

It is important to review the Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) to understand the limits and exclusions that apply when working or studying overseas, and to consider whether you need additional insurance specific to your employment or education arrangements.

Every claim is reviewed individually on a case-by-case basis and will only be paid if it meets the terms, conditions, limits, and exclusions in your policy. Always check the PDS carefully so you know exactly what’s included before you travel.
