Who is included under “spouse and dependants” in a travel insurance policy?
For the purposes of a travel insurance policy:
- A spouse is your husband, wife, or someone legally recognised in Australia as your de facto partner.
- A dependant is your own child or grandchild or child or grandchild of whom you are the legal guardian who is aged 20 years and under, not in full-time employment, and travelling with at least one of the adults named on the Certificate of Insurance for 100% of the itinerary.
Other children, such as nieces, nephews, or a friend’s children, are not considered dependants and would need to hold their own policy to be covered.
