What should I do if I have lost my passport?

What to do if your passport is lost, stolen or damaged while you are overseas:
  • Contact your nearest Australian Embassy, High Commission or Consulate.
  • You can also contact the 24 hour Consular Emergency Centre in Canberra on +61 2 6261 3305.
  • If your passport has been stolen from you, you must report the theft to the nearest police station for a police report as soon as practicable.
What you can claim for:
  • Up to $5000 if you have a Comprehensive, Snow Sports Plus or Frequent Traveller Saver policy, or up to $2000 if you have a Standard Saver policy, for the replacement costs (including your communication costs) of the passport.
  • For Trip Disruption costs if you are unable to travel because you don't have your passport.

Note:

  • If you have the Basics policy, there is no cover for the replacement or communications costs if you have lost your passport.
