If my phone breaks while overseas, am I covered to have it repaired or replaced?

Depending on the policy you have chosen, cover may be available under the Luggage and Personal Effects benefit of your Fast Cover Travel Insurance policy if your phone is damaged while overseas. Cover is available under the policy benefit, for the damage, loss or theft of your phone, which can include the cost of phone repair or replacement, up to a maximum sub-limit of $1,500 per unspecified item (which includes mobile phones). Other maximum benefit limits also apply, depending on the policy chosen. Coverage is subject to the terms, conditions, exclusions, limits and sub-limits outlined in the Product Disclosure Statement (PDS).

The amount payable will be the cost of repair, replacement or the purchase price of the phone minus any applicable depreciation, whichever is lesser, applied as outlined in the Product Disclosure Statement.

To make a claim for phone repair or replacement:

  • Ensure you have proof of ownership of the phone
  • Obtain and keep all receipts and documents related to the repair or replacement
  • If a claim relates to a mobile phone or device with phone capabilities, You must supply Us the IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) number. You must also block the IMEI number with Your telecommunications provider
  • If required, provide a repair report displaying the cost of the repair amount, charged by the repairer (please note, the cost to obtain this report is not covered)
  • Submit your claim for assessment through the Fast Cover claims process.

It is important to be aware of important cover conditions, as well as exclusions that may apply, including but not limited to:

  • The damage arises from an electrical or mechanical breakdown
  • The damage arises from ordinary wear and tear, deterioration, atmospheric or weather conditions, insects, rodents, or vermin
  • There is no cover if damage is to items that do not belong to you

Eligibility criteria, policy terms, conditions, exclusions, limits and sub limits apply. Consider the PDS prior to deciding on which policy is right for you and your needs.
