Do you need travel insurance for New Zealand?

While travel insurance is not a legal requirement for visiting New Zealand, having cover can help protect you against unexpected costs such as overseas medical treatment, trip cancellations, lost luggage, or travel delays.  

Even though New Zealand has a Reciprocal Health Care Agreement with Australia, this only provides limited medical assistance and does not cover things like evacuation, or non-medical travel costs.
