My friend is a professional snow sports instructor, but not employed at the ski resort that I am skiing at, am I covered to do off-piste skiing with him?
Our PDs provides that you must do the activities listed below, with a paid local professional snow sports instructor.
This is because we require that they (must) have been trained in all aspects of backcountry and avalanche safety and are familiar with the areas they are guiding and instructing in, and they hold the required insurances and permits to guide groups in backcountry areas on a commercial basis.
Even if you are a professional snow sports instructor or your friend is, you must still do the activity with another paid local professional snow sports instructor to have cover for:
- Off-piste skiing or snowboarding
- Backcountry skiing and snowboarding
- Cat skiing and snowboarding
- Glacier skiing and snowboarding
- Heli-skiing and snowboarding (provided by a commercial operator and available to the general public only)
You are free to make a claim, and the Claims team will assess your claim and make a decision based on your particular circumstances.
Cover is subject to the policy terms, conditions, limits and exclusions in the Product Disclosure Statement (PDS).
