Does the return date on my travel insurance have to match the date I return to Australia?
Yes — the return date on your Certificate of Insurance must reflect the date you intend to return to Australia. This date sets the length of your cover and ensures you’re protected for your whole trip.
If your plans are uncertain, you can choose the latest date you expect to return and extend your policy later for an additional premium once your plans are clearer. Policies bought while already overseas must cover the entire duration of your trip. If they don’t, the policy may be invalid, and any claims could be denied.
If you are a temporary resident of Australia, for example, non-Australian citizens or non-permanent residents; you must hold a valid return ticket and date to Australia at the time of purchase. This is one of the eligibility requirements for buying a Fast Cover policy.
Every claim is reviewed individually on a case-by-case basis and will only be paid if it meets the terms, conditions, limits, and exclusions in your policy. Always check the PDS carefully so you know exactly what’s included before you travel.
