Does travel insurance cover me if I buy a policy after a natural disaster has already happened?

If you purchase a travel insurance policy after a natural disaster has already occurred, there is no cover for claims related to that event. This is because the natural disaster is considered a known event at the time you bought your policy.

Travel insurance is designed to cover unexpected and unforeseen events. Once an event is widely reported in the media or by government and official bodies, it is no longer considered unforeseen, and claims arising from it are excluded.

Every claim is reviewed individually on a case-by-case basis and will only be paid if it meets the terms, conditions, limits, and exclusions in your policy. Always check the PDS carefully so you know exactly what’s included before you travel.
