We have a DUO policy - if we both get our luggage stolen, is that one claim or two claims?
If your luggage is stolen in the same incident (at the same time) during your trip:
The theft would be considered one event, in which case you would only pay one excess. You can each submit separate claims or one claim for both your losses.
For example: If the excess on your DUO policy is $200, and you both lose your luggage in the same incident, you would pay $200 in total for both your claims.
If your luggage is stolen at different times during your trip:
Each traveller listed on the policy must make their own separate claim for the items that they have lost, and pay the applicable excess for each claim.
For example: If the excess on your DUO policy is $200, and you both lose your luggage, but at different times during your trip, each of you would need to pay $200 in excess when submitting your separate claims, so you would pay $400 in total for both your claims.
Note:
You must:
- Where it is reasonably possible, report the loss or theft as soon as practicable, but preferably within 24-hours to the police or an office of the bus line, airline, shipping line or rail authority you were travelling on when the loss or theft occurred.
- Provide us with a copy of the written report to the police or office of the bus line, airline, shipping line or an office of the bus line, airline, shipping line or rail authority you were travelling on.
