My hired SUV has no locked storage compartment, am I covered if my luggage or belongings are stolen?

If you are not able to get an SUV with an enclosed boot space or locked storage compartment, and hence the cargo area is exposed, you need to take reasonable measures to ensure that your luggage and personal items are concealed within the SUV and obscured from view. If possible, you should keep items that you don't require for the day, secured in your hotel or accommodation.

If you have taken reasonable measures to conceal and obscure your luggage and personal items from view and your luggage is stolen during daylight hours, when it is reasonably possible to, you should report the theft to the police and obtain a police report for the incident. You would have provision to put a claim in for the theft.

The Claims team will assess each claim on a case by case basis, and the outcome of your claim will depend on your particular circumstances.

Note:

There is no cover for the loss or theft of your luggage and personal items left in your SUV overnight, even if they are concealed and obscured from view.

Cover is subject to the policy terms, conditions, limits and exclusions in the Product Disclosure Statement (PDS).
