Am I covered if my doctor said I was ok to travel before I left for my trip, but my condition worsened on my trip?
The following advice is general advice only and has not taken into account your individual objectives, financial situation or needs. Consider the PDS prior to deciding whether this policy is right for you.
Medical conditions that you have prior to your trip departure:
Cover is available under your policy if your medical condition is listed as a covered condition on your certificate of insurance and your medical condition worsened on your trip.
If your medical condition is listed on your certificate of insurance and your condition worsened or changed prior to your departure for your trip, you must complete a medical screening even if your medical practitioner has advised that you are fit to travel.
You should also complete a medical screening for any new medical conditions you develop after you buy your policy and before you leave for your trip.
If we agree to provide you with cover for your medical condition following your medical screening, you will need to pay an additional premium, and your medical condition will be listed as a covered condition on your certificate of insurance.
IMPORTANT:
If you have:
- had a medical or pregnancy condition within the 3 years prior to your policy purchase date, or
- not notified us of a change in health or new medical condition as mentioned above, and
- they are not listed as a covered condition on your certificate of insurance,
there is no cover for any claims under the policy arising from any of those medical or pregnancy conditions.
Check out our Medical Conditions page for more information about:
- What we consider to be an existing medical condition,
- Medical screening for your existing medical and pregnancy conditions, and
- Information about the General Exclusions that may apply*.
As each individual’s circumstances are different, in the event of a claim, our claims team will assess each claim on a case by case basis.
Cover is subject to the policy terms, conditions, limits and exclusions in the Product Disclosure Statement (PDS).
