Am I covered for an item I bought off Facebook marketplace?
Items purchased through platforms such as Facebook Marketplace may be covered under your Fast Cover travel insurance policy, depending on the reason for the claim, the type of item, and the type of policy you have selected.
Cover for such items is available under Benefit 14: Luggage and Personal Effects, and is subject to the terms, conditions, exclusions, limits, sub-limits, and depreciation rules outlined in the Product Disclosure Statement (PDS).
To support a claim for an item purchased through Facebook Marketplace, you must be able to provide satisfactory proof of ownership and value. Acceptable forms of proof of ownership may include, but are not limited to:
- A screenshot of the purchase confirmation.
- An invoice or receipt of purchase.
- A bank transfer statement showing payment for the item.
We note that certain provisions and exclusion apply, such as the items must not be left Unsupervised or in a public place. If your item is lost or stolen, you are required to report the incident to the police or relevant authority as soon as practicable—ideally within 24 hours—and obtain a written report, which is essential to support your claim.
Eligibility criteria, policy terms, conditions, exclusions, limits and sub limits apply. Consider the PDS prior to deciding on which policy is right for you and your needs.
Any advice is general advice only and does not take into account your individual objectives, financial situation, or needs. Please consider the PDS before making any decisions regarding the purchase of travel insurance.
As each individual’s circumstances are different, we will assess each claim on a case-by-case basis in accordance with your specific circumstances, policy terms, and Certificate of Insurance.
